Celebrating Diversity and Gratitude: Syngenta SABA's Cultural Day and Zambia’s First-Ever Appreciation Day

Southern Africa BA went all out last Friday, May 26th, 2023 to celebrate Cultural Day and Employee Appreciation Day in a fun and professional way. The entire event was filled with excitement as employees wore vibrant cultural attire, proudly showcasing their diverse backgrounds.

Our Diversity & Inclusion Champion for the BA, Shupiwe Nkhuwa emphasized on the importance of embracing our diversity, "Syngenta prides itself in being a diverse and inclusive company. On Africa Day, we exercised this by appreciating and acknowledging various cultures and traditions in the SABA region.” she mentioned.

This year, the Zambia office made the celebration even more special by introducing awards to recognize outstanding employees. It was an incredible opportunity for Syngenta to demonstrate its commitment to valuing and appreciating the invaluable contributions made by its employees.

HR Generalist, Stella Phiri was excited about hosting the first-ever Appreciation and Cultural day and she had this to say, “ It is often said that your organisation and culture are as unique as your people. People are the most important asset an organisation will ever have. They are directly responsible for actualising your vision and your ability to achieve your goals consistently.  Having good talent who are willing to deliver above and beyond expectation is not a luxury that many companies can boast of. Therefore, good talent must be appreciated for the invaluable contribution they bring. Excellence deserves to be celebrated.”

Meanwhile the Direct Business Countries also celebrated with the rest of the team by having smaller gatherings with all teams in the country over a cozy traditional meal and dressed in their flamboyant traditional attires.

In celebrating this year’s Appreciation and Cultural Day, The SABA BA Head, Given Mudenda had this to say, “In Syngenta, we value our employees and appreciate the diversity of our team. Having such an event in the BA gives us unity, appreciation of our culture and team contribution to the business. I am humbled to lead such a diverse, cultured, dedicated and unique team of colleagues. Thank you for your work and contribution to the BA team.”

The celebration was a great success, leaving everyone feeling happy, connected and inspired. It reminded us of the power of unity and the strength that comes from embracing diversity. It also highlighted the important role each employee plays in making Syngenta successful
